Alaska PreMed Summit – Interested in a career in medicine? Join Alaska WWAMI on Saturday, March 30, 2024 to learn about pursuing a career in healthcare. More information and registration can be found at the event website.

In lieu of our Spring Preparing your Application Series of workshops, we will be conducting the workshops at the Alaska PreMed Summit on March 30th.

Preparing Your Application Series Part 1:  Putting Together a Cohesive Application – This session aims to help students create a strategy for putting together a cohesive application that best highlights their unique strengths.

Preparing Your Application Series Part 2:  The Importance of Reflection in Your Experiences – This hands-on workshop will cover the experiences section of the Medical School application, which is often misinterpreted by students. This session aims to help students understand what the application committee is looking for in this critical section of the application. Please come prepared with some experience reflections to share with fellow attendees.

 

Fall 2023

September 20, 2023. Noon - 1:00pm
Program Information Session for High School Guidance Counselors – This session will offer information to better help high school guidance counselors as they support those students interested in becoming physicians.  Each WWAMI student has taken a unique journey in becoming a part of the WWAMI family and it is important for our future students to understand that they have many options for preparing themselves for medical school.  We will explain what we are looking for in our applicants and how interested students can create their own unique developmental pathway that is best for them and their interests. September 29, 2023. 1:00PM IN PERSON
General program information for potential Alaska WWAMI applicants – This session is for students that are interested in becoming physicians and are interested in learning more about our program and what we are looking for in our applicants.  It will contain a brief program overview, a general description of program requirements, and offer an opportunity for our program director and advisors to answer student questions. Save The Date: September 29, 2023 from 1pm - 2pm. This session is in-person in HSB. Show up day-of, or pre-register to receive email reminders. Register here. 

September 29, 2023. 5:30PM VIRTUAL

October 4, 2023. 7:00pm
Strategies for making yourself a better WWAMI candidate – This session will provide greater details into what we are looking for in our applicants and how to demonstrate those desired characteristics and skills within the framework of a medical school application. Save The Date: Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 7pm via Zoom. Link available with free registration. 

November 29, 2023. 7:00pm
Preparing Your Application: Preparing for the MCAT – This session will provide the basic components of a good MCAT preparatory study plan.  Students will then be shown ways in which those components can be put together to create their own personal study plan.
