Spring 2026 Course Offerings

 

These non-credit courses, offered through UAA Continuing Education, are for intermediate* learners. 

*No test is required before registration. However, this is the recommended score range: CASAS level 5 or 6; IELTS Band 4.0-5.0; or TOEFL iBT: 44-72

ESOL Speaking and Listening (Intermediate)

January 12 - March 6, 2026
Tuesdays/Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 pm
UAA campus
Cost: $100

This class focuses on increasing fluency and accuracy in spoken English in academic and professional settings. Students will discuss a variety of topics with a focus on development and integration of academic vocabulary. Practice listening and speaking skills for participation in group discussions and giving short presentations. 

Is this class is right for you?

  • Do you feel comfortable in everyday conversations, but struggle to explain your ideas clearly in longer discussions?
  • Do you sometimes catch the main idea when listening to lectures, news, or podcasts, but miss supporting details?
  • Do you find it challenging to join in group discussions, especially when the conversation moves quickly?
  • Do you have difficulty giving a short talk (2-3 minutes) that is organized and easy to follow?
  • Do you want more practice improving your pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary so others can understand you easily in both casual and academic situations?

If you answered “yes” to any or all of these questions, this class is for you.

ESOL Reading and Writing (Intermediate)

March 16 - May 8, 2026
Tuesdays/Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 pm
UAA campus
Cost: $100

This class focuses on increasing English reading and writing skills in academic and professional settings. Students will read and write on a variety of topics with a focus on development and integration of academic vocabulary. Focuses on development of reading comprehension and writing short academic texts.

Is this class is right for you?

  • Do you usually understand the main idea in short articles or stories, but need help with some details and vocabulary?
  • Do you find it challenging to read 1–2 pages without extra time or support?
  • Do you feel comfortable writing simple paragraphs, but need practice combining ideas into longer pieces of writing?
  • Do you sometimes struggle to use linking words (like and, but, because, first, next, finally)?
  • Do you want more practice editing for grammar, sentence structure, and clarity?

If you answered “yes” to any or all of these questions, this class is for you.
