National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program

Since 1952, the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program has recognized and supported future leaders in the science technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. Each year, NSF awards over 1,000 fellowships to outstanding students in these fields. Fellowships provide 3 years of financial support. Fellowships also provide award recipients with the freedom to pursue research projects of their own design and may be used within a five-year period. Fellows are given access to cyber-infrastructure resources TeraGrid. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals or permanent resident aliens, and at or near the beginning of graduate studies in an NSF-supported field. Study Marine Ecosystem Sustainability in Alaska!

MESAS (Marine Ecosystem Sustainability in the Arctic and Subarctic) is an interdisciplinary graduate program that trains students in ecosystem approaches to manage and study living marine resources. Faculty and mentors teach the principles and analytical tools and anthropology, ecology, economics, fisheries science, management, marine policy, and oceanography. Outstanding Commitment Awards 2010

The 2010 Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) Outstanding Commitment Awards, made possible by Walmart, are grants anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000 given to exceptional student commitments to action aimed at improving communities and lives around the world. All currently enrolled students (both undergraduate and graduate) may apply for these awards. Call for papers - Undergraduate Philosophy Conference

The Philosophy Department held its 6th Annual Undergraduate Philosophy Conference on April 8-9, 2011.  The keynote speaker was Prof. Denys Turner, Horace Tracy Pitkin Professor of Historical Theology Professor of Religion in the Department of Religious Studies, Yale Divinity School.  Prof. Turner's presentation was titled, "The Unknowability of God."
All undergraduate submissions in philosophy are welcome and should include an abstract and author contact information. Submissions should be a maximum of 3500 words. Washington Center Intern Abroad Programs: London, and Sydney

Live. Learn. Intern. (In Washington, D.C.)

Sponsored by the Fund for American Studies in partnership with Georgetown University, the Live. Learn. Intern. programs combine substantive internships, rigorous courses for academic credit, career development activities, exclusive briefings and lectures led by prominent policy experts.  Students from NCHC honors programs (including the University Honors College!) will be given priority in scholarship awards.  Honors students should indicate on their application materials that they are a member of an honors program and list their honors activities on their resume.  Internship placements are available in the following areas: politics, public policy, and international affairs; journalism, communications, and public relations; corporate business and government affairs; nonprofit sector and community service. Research Experience for Undergraduates - Lake Tahoe Watershed

The Great Basin Institute with the University of Nevada, Reno is offering a Summer Research Experience for twelve undergraduates to work within the Lake Tahoe Watershed. The summer interns will gain experience conducting research on various aspects of environmental science and resource economics. The position dates are June 4 - August 13 and the students will receive a living stipend of $4,250 plus housing. These positions are funded by the National Science Foundation and are only open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate college or university with a junior or senior status.Information on the Summer 2012 prgram is forthcoming.

Partners in the Parks: Fire Island to Ellis Island

Partners in the Parks will once again present Fire Island to Ellis Island, a week-long program in June that begins at Theodore Roosevelt's home, Sagamore Hill, includes an overnight camping trip on the Fire Island dunes, and visits several National Park sites in urban NYC, including Liberty and Ellis Islands as well as important monuments and historic museums.
