Indigenizing Education
The Graduate Certificate in Indigenizing Education is designed to equip educators, Indigenous and non-Indigenous leaders, and other professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to create and implement culturally sustaining education systems, curricula, and pedagogies. Graduates of this program will be prepared to support learners across K–12 schools, higher education institutions, and diverse educational settings, fostering environments that honor Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, and practices.
The program can be completed via distance. Admitted students must have the technological knowledge and skills to engage in distance learning.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students graduating with a Graduate Certificate in Indigenizing Education will be able to:
- Describe the value, history, and relationship of Indigenous ways of knowing, Indigenous peoples in Alaska, and education.
- Identify approaches and strategies to Indigenize education systems and teachings based on Indigenous cultures, languages, and views.
- Analyze and reframe the role of tribal governance in an educational system or problem.
- Design an age-appropriate, contextualized Indigenized curriculum/plan.
- Compare principles and strategies found in Indigenized education systems and teaching practices.
