by Michelle Saport  |

Friday, Feb. 28, 10-11:30 a.m. ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building, Room 105D

UAA will host a brief visit from the Ambassador of Finland to the U.S., the Hon. Ritva Koukku-Ronde, and her staff. She is interested in hearing from the university community-including students, faculty and staff-about key areas of interest and concern relating to changing conditions in the Arctic. The U.S. will assume the Chair of the Arctic Council in 2015, and all the Arctic nations are facing similar issues responding to rapid change in terms of educational opportunities, sustainability and resilience.

The first part of the meeting will focus on students' and researchers' views and concerns. Ambassador Koukku-Ronde noted she and her staff are particularly interested in hearing how the U.S. and Finland might develop and strengthen ties in education, student and faculty exchanges and joint research opportunities.

UAA Chancellor Tom Case plans to make a brief welcome and introduction at 11 a.m. All members of the UAA community are welcome to attend and participate.
