Metal-on-metal hip implants, often marketed to younger, more active patients in need of hip replacement, have been shown to have troubling side effects. Dr. Jane Shelby, director of Alaska WWAMI School of Medical Education, was a guest of Dr. Thad Woodard's "Line One: Your Health Connection" to talk about the phenomenon with Dr. Steve Tower and Dr. Michael Mayor. Listen to the podcast available through Alaska Public Media for an in-depth discussion of the procedure and what patients should know.

To learn more about what WWAMI and Alaska are doing to address the problems arising from metal-on-metal implants and the ethical implications, read Kathleen McCoy's article featured in the Anchorage Daily News and in Green & Gold News.
