2014 Japanese Summer Festival

Master Koto Artist Yukiko Matsuyama Friday, July 11, 6:30 p.m. Wendy Williamson Auditorium

International recording artist Yukiko Matsuyama bridges eras and cultures. From performing with Shakira at the Latin Grammy Awards, recording with Paul Winter on his Grammy Award-winning album "Miho: Journey to the Mountain," to performing with Motown Legend James Gadson, Yukiko shares the sound of Japan's national instrument with audiences worldwide.

For her show at UAA, Matsuyama will be accompanied by Diana Dentino and Hirotaka Ogawa, and preceded by opening act Emma Hill, an Alaska singer-songwriter. Don't miss this fusion of world pop, new age and world music. Tickets are on sale now at brownpapertickets.com.

Japanese Summer Festival Saturday, July 12, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Cuddy Quad

The Japanese Summer Festival is a cultural celebration. Enjoy live music, taiko drumming, Japanese cuisine, athletic events, martial arts exhibitions, cultural demonstrations, carnival games, contests and prizes, plus a karaoke contest. Grand raffle prize is 100,000 Alaska Airline miles.

Both events are sponsored by UAA, the Japanese Society of Alaska and the Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage.
