UAA's Academic Pathways were strategically designed to help you build a strong academic foundation in your first thirty credits. Your AMCS advisor will work with you to customize your pathway to your background, interest, and goals.

  • Business

    The Business Pathway at UAA prepares students for leadership at the frontiers of a changing world. Majors include: Accounting (BBA), Economics (BA, BBA), Finance (BBA), Management (BBA), Management Information Systems (BBA), Marketing (BBA), Global Logistics & Supply Chain Management (BBA). Associate of Applied Science programs are currently advised within the College of Business and Public Policy.
  • STEM

    The Engineering Pathway at UAA encourages students to combine creativity in design with scientific analysis to develop new products, processes, and structures. Majors include: Civil Engineering (BS), Electrical Engineering (BS), Mechanical Engineering (BS), Computer Systems Engineering (BS), Computer Science (BA, BS), Geomatics (BS).

    The Mathematics and Natural Sciences Pathways empower students to reason mathematically and to use scientific inquiry to reach sound conclusions for success in everyday and professional life. Majors include: Biological Sciences (BA, BS), Mathematics (BA, BS), Chemistry (BS), Geological Sciences (BS), Natural Sciences (BS).

  • Humanities and the Arts

    The Humanities and Communication Pathway empowers students and prepares them for a life of active engagement in an increasingly complex, diverse and changing world; providing students with the skills to flourish in multiple career paths - teaching, government service, law, business, entrepreneurship, NGOs, and more! Majors include: English (BA), History (BA), International Studies (BA), Languages (BA), Philosophy (BA), Journalism and Public Communication (BA)

    The Visual and Performing Arts Pathway empowers students to be courageous and inquisitive, solve problems creatively, and develop the skills necessary to be engaged professionals in the arts. Majors include: Art (BA, BFA), Music (BA, BM)

  • Health, Social, and Service Professions

    The Health Sciences & Professions Pathway is your start to a career in Alaska’s growing Healthcare Industry, allowing you to build foundational skills and explore the diverse interprofessional team with whom you will work. Majors include: Dental Hygiene (BS), Dietetics (BA), Health Sciences (BS), Medical Laboratory Science (BS), Nursing Science (BS), Occupational Safety and Health (BS), Kinesiology (BS). Associate of Applied science programs are currently advised within the College of Health Student Success Center.

    The Social Sciences Pathway includes major and degree programs that explore the complexity of human behavior via empirical methodologies to better understand interpersonal, institutional, societal, and cultural dynamics. Majors include: Anthropology (BA, BS), Political Science (BA), Psychology (BA, BS), Journalism and Public Communication (BA).

    The Service Professions Pathway prepares students to work for social justice and help people in their communitiesMajors include: Early Childhood Education (AAS), Human Services (BHS), Social Work (BSW), Justice (BA), Legal Studies (BA).

  • Industry & Technical fields

    The degrees and certificate programs in the Industry and Technical Education Pathway are designed to meet Alaska’s workforce needs and foster student success through high quality education and technical training.  Programs include: Applied Technologies Leadership, Aviation Technology, Building Technologies, Culinary Arts, Transportation and Power.  For a full list, visit the Community and Technical College advising website.
  • General Studies and Undecided

    The Exploratory Pathway empowers students to explore all of their possibilities and prepare them for whatever the future holds for their education and career goals. Possible concentration areas include: Business, STEM, Humanities and Arts, Health or Social Sciences or Service, Industry & Tech.

    The Associate of Arts Pathway provides an academic foundation for student success by focusing on general education requirements and flexible options for career preparation. Possible concentration areas include: Business, STEM, Humanities and Arts, Health or Social Sciences or Service, Industry & Tech.

Degree Information

UAA offers a full variety of bachelor, associate, and certificate programs.

Bachelor’s Degree (4+ years): awarded to students after successful completion of a 120 credit hour program of study.  Students usually complete a Bachelor’s degree in four - six years.

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA)
  • Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
  • Bachelor of Science (BS)

Associate’s Degree (2+ years): awarded to students after successful completion of a 60 credit hour program of study.  Students usually complete an Associate’s degree in two-three years.

  • Associate of Arts (AA)
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS)

Occupational Endorsement and Undergraduate Certificates (1+ years): awarded to students after successful completion of a 30 credit (or fewer) certificate program in a professional/technical field of study.  Students usually complete a certification program in two years or less.
