Biography

Brad A. Myrstol, Ph.D., is a professor in the Justice Center. He received his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Indiana University in 2006. Myrstol’s primary area of research is policing, with a specific focus on how the frequency and nature of interactions with law enforcement shape citizens’ perceptions and understanding of the police and other criminal justice actors. In addition, he has conducted extensive research on the intersection of the criminal justice system and homelessness, and the criminal justice response to sexual assault and domestic violence. Myrstol recently received research funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics, to initiate the Alaska Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Case Processing Project. He also received funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice, to examine the impact of the Village Public Safety Officer (VPSO) program on the criminal justice response to violence committed against Alaska Native women in tribal communities.
