On the frontlines
UAA alumna Greer Gehler graduated from UAA’s School of Nursing with a bachelor’s degree in nursing science in December 2018. It’s been an exciting two years from landing her dream job in Providence Alaska Medical Center’s emergency room to providing care during COVID-19.
UAA M.P.H. alumna leads Anchorage Health Department
In 2002, after a phone interview with Boys and Girls Club of Alaska (BGC), UAA alumna Natasha Pineda bought a backpack and a pair of boots, booked a ticket out of PDX to Anchorage for what she calls, “a classic Alaska story.” The M.P.H. ’15 grad worked for BGC for a couple of years, ended up returning to Portland before moving to Mexico to live with her dad when she decided it was time to get serious about her career.
Getting a taste of the dietetics industry
As a lifelong ice skater, Oksana Deyneka has always known the role nutrition plays in an individual’s performance. Now as a dietetics alumna, she also knows how proper nutrition can benefit an entire community.
Looking down the road
How integral is Providence to Alaska? Not only does the hospital make up the second half of the namesake UMED District, but the organization is the largest non-government employer in the state, naturally resulting in the employment of a large number of UAA nursing and surgical technology alumni.
