University of Alaska Anchorage and Division of Population Health Sciences (DPHS) alumna Jordan Kamer (BS, Health Sciences, ‘17) has a pretty important job. As a public health educator with the Municipality of Anchorage Health Department, she is responsible for providing community education and guidance on public health—everything from COVID-19, to naloxone, to age-appropriate sex education.

The University of Alaska Anchorage Child Welfare Academy has named Amanda Metivier its new director.
UAA Master of Social Work alumni Kim Kovol recently was appointed by Gov. Mike Dunleavy as acting commissioner of the new Alaska Department of Family and Community Services.
The latest edition of Spirit magazine featured UAA nursing alumni taking on Alaska's needs. Since the pandemic began in early 2020, UAA's School of Nursing has graduated more than 500 new nurses into the state's health care system.
School of Social Work alumna and 2021 Alumni Humanitarian Amanda Metivier is the director of the Alaska Child Welfare Academy and co-founder of Facing Foster Care in Alaska. Through her advocacy at both organizations, she has led efforts to expand services and support for foster youth across Alaska. Metivier will be honored at the UAA Alumni of Distinction celebration banquet on April 23, 2022.
