Three UAA students are recipients of the 2010 Alaska EPSCoR Undergraduate Awards. Mark Ferrell, a Natural Sciences major, was recognized for his research project under the mentorship of Dr. Andrew Kliskey and Dr. Lillian Alessa. Brett Woelber, a Biological Sciences major, was recognizef for his research project under the mentorship of Dr. Andrew Kliskey. Rebekah Tee, a Chemistry major, was recognized for her research under the mentorship of Dr. John Kennish.

Two UAA Biological Sciences majors are recipients of 2009 Alaska EPSCoR Undergraduate Awards.  April Rochford, a senior and student of the University Honors College, has received this competitive award for her research project "Identifying genes controlling growth behavior in response to elevated temperature in Arabadopsis thaliana." Dr. Benjamin Harrison and Dr. Jocelyn Krebs have mentored Ms. Rochford on this project.  Junior Mark Ferrell was recognized for his research project "Social ecological relationships between Anchorage residents and water quality," under the mentorship of Dr. Andrew Kliskey and Dr. Lillian Alessa.

Summer EnglerUAA Biological Sciences major and University Honors Student Summer Engler is the recipient of a 2006 Alaska Undergraduate Student Research Experience (USRE) Award for her research project "Maintenance of Copper Homeostasis: Effects of Cup1p Overexpression Mac1p-dependent Gene Expression and Survival of S. Cerevisiae." This award will provide $500 for research expenses and supplies, plus a $4500 student stipend. Congratulations are extended to faculty mentor Dr. Jocelyn Krebs of UAA's Biological Sciences Department.

UAA Engineering major Maxim Prokudin is the recipient of an Alaska EPSCoR Summer 2006 Undergraduate Student Research Experience Award for his research project "Earthquake and Avalanches in Alaska--Any Connection Between Them?"  The total amount of this award is $5000.  Congratulations are extended to faculty mentor Dr. Zhaohui Yang of UAA's School of Engineering.

UAA Biological Sciences major Willow Malick is the recipient of an Alaska EPSCoR Spring 2006 Undergraduate Student Research Experience Award for her research project "Effects of Environment and Season on a Non-hibernating High Latitude Rodent, the Northern Red-backed vole (C.rutilus)."  The total amount of this award is $3000.  Congratulations are extended to faculty mentor Dr. Jocelyn Krebs of UAA's Biological Sciences Department.

Lorraine Perez CastilloUAA Biological Sciences major Lorraine Perez Castillo  is the recipient of a 2005 Alaska EPSCoR Undergraduate Student Research Support Award for her research project "Identification of ISWI Chromatin Remodeling Complex(es) Required for Eye Development and Cataract Prevention."
