Startup Companies
The business infrastructure for commercialization of innovative faculty and student research, which was approved by the Board of Regents in August 2012. The infrastructure includes Seawolf Holdings and Seawolf Venture Fund, they provide seed money for startups. Please contact Dr. George Kamberov to discuss investing in these companies. Cogniceutic Solutions, LLC
Cogniceutic Solutions, LLC has developed a therapeutic treatment which dramatically improves memory and reduces cognitive deficits of aging-associated dementia and neurodegeneration. Alzheimer’s disease affects more than 5 million people over the age of 65 in the US, and 35.6 million people worldwide have dementia according to the World Health Organization. The memory health supplement market had sales of $1.5 billion worldwide in 2013, and it is expected to accelerate in the years to come. Cogniceutic’s product was inspired by the Alaska bog blueberry. In tests with aged rats, the compound yielded statistically significant results in memory improvement, and tests on younger rats showed similar improvements. Human testing will be the next step. Dr. McGill and Dr. Murphy are preparing a submission to the SBIR program at NIH which is increasing funding in this area. US Patent Application #14/192,681.

Arctic Heat Technologies
(formerly CFT Solutions™, LLC)
The Alaska Accelerator Fund invested $300,000 in three tranches to Arctic Heat Technologies in 2017 and 2018, which provides an innovative and cost-effective approach to revolutionizing snow removal and deicing using carbon fiber tapes. Additional investments are welcome.
UAA's patented innovation embeds carbon fiber tapes under asphalt or 
concrete pavement, which heats the surface. Carbon fiber materials, including regular
carbon fiber and carbon nanofibers, exhibit excellent strength and electrical properties
and offer great potential for deicing applications. This technology, which involves efficiently heating the carbon fiber tapes, is very
effective at keeping walkways, driveways, bus stops, and intersections free of ice
and snow.
The technology is currently installed in front of the new UAA Engineering Building,
University Lake Building Annex, and at the Cook Inlet Housing Authority snow storage lot. Below is a photograph of the technology in action. US Patent 9,829,202 B2 issued November 28, 2017.

Zensor™, LLC
Zensor, LLC provides a new generation of improved wireless sensors for remote monitoring, system management, climate change, surveillance and security. Low cost, ultra-long lifespan sensors do not require batteries, collect, transmit and store data and can form ad-hoc networks. These sensors are being used to support various remote monitoring challenges in the Arctic for the DHS Center of Excellence at UAA- ADAC. The sensor patent, “Long Lifespan Wireless Sensors and Sensor Network,” was issued in February 2016 as U.S. Patent No. 9,257,036.
