Guests

Commencement is a formal ceremony, where decorum and respect for the customs of the occasion enhances the experience for the graduates and their guests. Therefore, in accordance with hundreds of years of academic tradition, students, guests, and the platform party are asked to observe the following:

  • For the safety and security of our graduates and guests, mandatory security screening by walk-through metal detectors will be in place at UAA’s commencement ceremonies.

To help ensure an efficient and positive experience for all, we ask that you:

Bring only essential items needed for the event.

Leave backpacks and bags larger than 4.5 x 6.5 inches at home.

Note that noisemakers and weapons will be refused at the screening stations.

*Adjustments to the timeline are possible should weather require.

  • A ticket is required for admittance into the Alaska Airlines Center and must be claimed in advance by the graduate for spring commencement. Guest tickets are not required for fall commencement.

  • All attendees must remain seated throughout the ceremony.

  • Cell phones must be turned off or silenced.

  • All graduates and their guests are asked to remain for the entire ceremony out of respect for all graduates.

  • Outside food and beverages are prohibited.

  • Alcohol, noisemakers and balloons are prohibited in the Alaska Airlines Center and will be confiscated.

  • Guests are asked to exit the arena promptly following the ceremony to meet their graduates outdoors on the south (parking lot) side of the Alaska Airlines Center.
