Categories and Criteria

The Chancellor's Awards for Excellence for 2021 accepts nominations in five categories with a total of six awards.

Awards are open to individuals and groups from the Anchorage campus or one of UAA's community campuses. Winners will receive $250.00. (Groups may be nominated for any category, but only one monetary prize will be issued per award.)

Deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021. Winners will be announced at Convocation (Welcome back Ceremony) in August 2021. For questions, please contact the Chancellor's Office at (907) 786-1437 or uaa_chancellor@alaska.edu.


We Put Students First: The Students-First Award

Faculty and staff | Two awards: One for a faculty member and one for a staff member for all UAA campuses.

Demonstrates exceptional commitment to advancing a culture of institutional excellence that inspires and enables student achievement and success in two or more of the following aspects:

Criteria

  • Instruction and learning experiences
  • Building and developing curriculum and learning resources
  • Mentoring students
  • Advancing student excellence
  • Advancing teaching excellence
  • Outstanding contribution to student achievement that improves transition to higher education, performance and grades so that most students persist and complete their educational goals.
  • Demonstrated innovative and creative approaches in advising, programming, partnerships, outreach and support services that identify and remove barriers to success.
  • Level “above & beyond” normal job requirements/functions

Nominate a faculty or staff member for the Students-First award.


We Create a Culture of Equity and Inclusion by Embracing our Diversity:  Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Faculty or staff | One award per year for all UAA campuses.

Outstanding contribution to the advancement of diversity of UAA students, staff and faculty through increasing the visibility and representation of diverse voices, creating an atmosphere of inclusiveness and community.

Criteria

  • Impact level showing advancement of diversity for students, faculty and staff
  • Impact level creating an atmosphere of inclusiveness and community
  • Level “above & beyond” normal job requirements/functions
  • Impact to advancing UAA’s Mission
  • Other noteworthy qualities considered

Nominate a faculty or staff member for the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion award.


We Embrace our Role as a Trusted and Respected Community Partner: The Community Partnership Award

Faculty, staff or individuals and organizations outside UAA for support of (other than financial) and advocacy for the university and its mission. | One award per year for all UAA campuses.

Outstanding contribution to the advancement of UAA students, staff and faculty while increasing the alignment to meet the community needs.  

Criteria

  • Examples of support and advocacy efforts
  • Relationship of efforts to university mission
  • Significance of direct impact of support efforts on university and its mission
  • Length of time of relationship of individual or organization with university
  • Outstanding contribution to advancing partnerships between the university and Alaska's schools, public and private industries, and community organizations which advances a culture of institutional excellence that inspires and enables student, faculty and staff success and/or the university's role as a productive civic partner and an engaged university.
  • Demonstrated innovative and creative approaches to research and development partnerships which build and sustain Alaska's economic growth and promote reciprocity and shared decision making.
  • Deepen and expand community engagement 
  • Other noteworthy qualities considered

Nominate an outstanding person/organization for the Community Partnership award.


We Accelerate Excellence Through Continuous Improvement: Administrative Excellence Award

Staff | One award per year for all UAA campuses.

Exercises leadership, initiative and outstanding teamwork capabilities that create a positive atmosphere, and consistently performs at a level above normal job requirements to advance a culture of institutional excellence that inspires and enables student, faculty and staff success.

Criteria

  • Impact level showing support
  • Impact level showing initiative
  • Impact level of teamwork capabilities that create a positive atmosphere
  • Level “above and beyond” normal job requirements/functions
  • Impact to advancing UAA’s Mission
  • Other noteworthy qualities considered

Nominate a staff member for the Administrative Excellence award.


We Positively Impact Communities and the World Through Innovation: Chancellor’s Choice Award

Faculty or staff | One award per year for all UAA campuses.

Award for achievement and/or innovation (best idea) in a category/theme of the Chancellor's choice. The theme for 2021 is student enrollment.

Criteria

  • Innovation in managing or growing enrollment
  • Level “above and beyond” normal job requirements/functions
  • Impact to advancing UAA’s mission
  • Other noteworthy qualities considered
