Math & Statistics Art ContestThe purpose of the UAA Mathematics and Statistics Art Contest is to promote the use and understanding of mathematics in art. Participation in the UAA Mathematics and Statistics Art Contest constitutes full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules and the decisions of UAA Mathematics and Statistics Art Contest sponsors and judges, which are final and binding. Winning is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein in a timely manner.

PRIZES: 1st place $75, 2nd place $50, and 3rd place $25 cash awards.

ENTRY PERIOD: The UAA Mathematics and Statistics Art Contest 2017 will begin on Monday, October 2, 2017 and will end on Friday, October 6, 2017.

Submission Deadline & Location: All submissions should be delivered on or before 5 pm on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017 to UAA, Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics, Attn: Debbie Narang, SSB Building Room 154A, 3211 Providence Drive, Anchorage, AK 99508.

 
  • Submission Requirements & Process

    Anyone who took a MATH or STAT class on this campus last spring, summer or this fall is eligible. To enter, complete the official entry form. You must include on the entry form your complete and accurate information, including your UAA E‐mail address, your full name, phone number, a brief description of the submitted entry, and all other information requested.

  • Contest Rules

    To qualify, your submission must conform to the following specific Contest Rules:


    1. Each entry must be an original work that you have created that does not include material in which a
    third party has intellectual property rights. You may not use copyrighted characters (i.e. Hello Kitty,
    Batman, South Park, etc.)


    2. Each entry must not, in the sole discretion of the UAA Mathematics and Statistics Art Contest, be
    obscene, indecent, offensive, violent, hateful, or libelous, or contain any other content otherwise
    inconsistent with the purposes of the UAA Mathematics and Statistics Art Contest as described in these
    Official Rules and related materials.


    3. All entries must be displayable in a standard frame (2‐D) or shadow box (small 3‐D) and made from
    either paper, metal, glass, plastic, stone or wood. Any other media must have prior written approval by
    the UAA Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics Department Chair.


    4. UAA nor the Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics will not be responsible for any lost or damaged
    submissions.

    5. Winning submissions become the property of the UAA Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics unless
    requested at the time of entry, in which case the artwork will be returned at the end of the academic
    year.


    6. Number of entries: Artists/Designers are allowed to submit multiple original entries; however, UAA
    Mathematics and Statistics Art Contest reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to restrict participation
    in the contest to any person at any time for any reason and/or to disqualify any entry at any time for any
    reason.

  • Judging

    Judges are made up of members of the UAA Department of Mathematics and Statistics. All judges’ decisions are final. Artwork will be judged on relevance to the contest theme and message, originality, creativity, and general design aesthetic.
