Recruitment and Retention of Alaska Natives into Nursing (RRANN)
Welcome to the online home of the RRANN program! We are honored by your visit.
Recruitment and Retention of Alaska Natives into Nursing (RRANN) began in 1998 with federal grant funds to recruit and mentor Alaska Native/American Indian students to pursue nursing degrees. Since 1998, RRANN has helped hundreds of Alaska Native and American Indian students graduate from the UAA School of Nursing. RRANN currently assists nurse majors and pre-majors on University of Alaska campuses statewide by offering tutoring services, material lending, group meetings to help you connect with peers, and Student Success Facilitators that offer career and personal advice to aid nursing and pre-nursing students in successfully completing the UA Nursing program.

"Providing culturally relevant health care is not a matter of political correctness; it is a often a matter of life and death. When cultural competency is missing from health care, important information is not communicated, symptoms of illness are overlooked or misinterpreted, and patient outcome suffers."Dr. Tina DeLapp, EdD, RN, FAAN
RRANN continues to assist students in becoming future nurses providing excellent and culturally competent nursing care for Alaska's growing and diverse population. RRANN students' desire to help increase the comfort level in Alaska Native and American Indian people seeking healthcare. One of the unique ways that RRANN students can do that is by relating to indigenous ways of living, knowing, and healing.
