September 10, 2019 - Maintenance
Maintenance
We're performing an upgrade to our OU Campus Server-Side Module (SSM) on Tuesday, September 10, 8:00am-8:30am. The SSM processes submitted forms from all UAA OU Campus websites and displays form submissions to the user in OU Campus. OU Campus forms will not be able to be submitted and previous submissions cannot be viewed during the upgrade. The technician estimates the upgrade will take 15 minutes.
Our website will not be impacted other than forms not submitting during the maintenance window. OU Campus can be used normally other than actions on form assets during the maintenance window.
This upgrade is being performed as part of the troubleshooting process for an issue with forms not properly submitting to the server. It will also take care of a bug where certain versions of Firefox do not correctly show the date that a form was submitted.
OmniUpdate, the makers of OU Campus, will be performing the upgrade and it must take place during their technician's office hours which is outside our normal maintenance window at UAA. We appreciate your understanding. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
- August 16, 2019 - Site Publish and PDF Accessibility
Site Publish
We'll be doing a site publish over the weekend (8/17-8/18). This will take care of some of the bugs from the recent upgrade as well as fix many of the site-wide accessibility issues. We always make a best effort to publish only previously published pages and will make sure to remove "do-not-publish" directories after the publish process has completed. On a related note, if you accidentally publish a "do-not-publish" file, we've made it so they're not accessible from the Production website.
PDF Accessibility Training
This training will help users working with PDF documents learn the basics of accessibility checks and how to remediate documents when you find errors in accessibility. We will walk through various types of errors, the remediation of those errors, and what you can do to make sure you are generating the most accessible content possible, regardless of the platform.
Two training sessions are being offered:
- Wednesday, August 21, 1:00 PM-3:00 PM
- Friday, September 6, 10:00 AM-Noon
This training will take place on Zoom web conferencing platform allowing you to work/practice directly from your desktop. Please ensure you have a working webcam, speakers and microphone (or comparable headset) plus protected time to fully participate in training. Captioning will be provided.
You can register on our Accessibility Training Registration page.
- August 7, 2019 - Upgrade Complete
Upgrade Complete
We recently completed upgrading the underlying framework for the following sites:
This upgrade allows us to resolve some remaining accessibility issues while also providing a more responsive and mobile-friendly website. You’ll notice that there were also some changes to snippets to allow you more layout options. Please visit the Release Notes page for more information.
Special note for Accessibility Coordinators: You may notice a drop in your site’s accessibility score. This is normal. We may need to do some work in SiteImprove and on the website similar to when the site was initially added.
Publishing the sites was necessary as part of this upgrade. Best effort was made to publish only previously published content and to remove “do not publish” and “archive” folders. We need our Web Authors to help clean up the files in OU Campus.
Action items for Web Authors
- Verify the content on the website is what you want on the website. When you’re browsing in OU Campus, click on the Production tab and that will show
you the actual directories and webpages on the website.
- If you see a file that should not be there, click on the Staging Tab to get back to OU Campus and either delete the file (if it’s not needed) or open the file and use the Unpublish File Gadget to remove the file from the website. If the Gadget does not remove the file, contact the Technical Support Center and they can assist. Read more about Staging vs. Production.
- If you see a file that is missing then make sure you’re back in Staging and publish the file.
- If you need a large number of files that need to be removed then contact the Technical Support Center and they’ll open a ticket to go through your site.
- Clean up your OU Campus directories. When going through the site we noticed a lot of old pages and copies of pages (many
that are currently published). Please take one of the following actions:
- Delete the files (if not needed).
- Move to a folder called “_archive-do-not-publish”. Don’t forget the leading underscore (_).*
- Rename archive and do not publish directories. We saw a wide range of names and would like them all the same so we don’t have to guess which ones can be deleted. Name them all “_archive-do-not-publish”. Don’t forget the leading underscore (_).*
- Move any stray documents into the _documents directory and stray images into the _images directory. Make sure you know which pages you may be impacting so you can check them and re-link files as necessary.
Performing these actions will clean up the website and reduce the risk of content being published that shouldn't be.
* If you don’t like the _archive-do-not-publish directory name then you can use another name that starts with an underscore (_) and ends with “-do-not-publish” (e.g. _temporary-do-not-publish or _working-do-not-publish).
- Verify the content on the website is what you want on the website. When you’re browsing in OU Campus, click on the Production tab and that will show
you the actual directories and webpages on the website.
