The Center guides Alaskan youth & adults into health career pathways through hands-on exploration activities. These programs provide opportunites to earn entry level industry recognized credentials such as Basic Life Support, Mental Health First Aid, Mandt Descalation Training.
Youth Exploration Camps Rural Health CTEPS
PATH Academies
Kids will participate in hands-on and engaging week-long programs to explore careers
in allied health, public health, behavioral health and medicine. Each camp includes
an industry recognized credential and may be offered for dual credit.
In response to the shortage of career and technical education instructors in rural
Alaska, the Alaska AHEC partnered with the State of Alaska Department of Education
and Early Development. Rural Health CTEPS provide districts with qualified instructors
to implement career pathways in a format that best meets the needs of each school.
The Pre-Apprenticeship Training in Healthcare (PATH) Academy is for Alaskans 16+ who
are interested in exploring potential career opportunities within healthcare. This
hands-on training helps participants to become CPR certified, receive mental health
first aid training, gain job readiness skills, and learn about employment opportunities
in their area.
Train
The Center prepares health profession students for practice in rural and underserved communities. Targeting all disciplines from certificate to doctorate programs, the Center works with health facilities and providers across Alaska to provide community based experiential learning opportunities. Core topics relevant to rural practice are emphasized, such as: cultural competency, interprofessional education, and social determinants of health.
AHEC Scholars is a two-year program designed to supplement and broaden a student’s
healthcare training. Any student enrolled in their final two years of an Alaskan healthcare
program can apply! RIIN
Certificate Trainings
Gain healthcare experience the Alaskan way! RIIN is apart of the Alaska AHEC Program.
Rural Alaskan "Edventure" for undergraduate & graduate healthcare students or professionals
interested in rural health practice. All disciplines are welcome.
The Alaska AHEC has certified instructors to provide Youth, teen, Adult MHFA, BLS,
Mandt De-Escalation, and Red Cross First Aid & CPR.
Retain
The Center helps retain a high quality healthcare workforce in Alaska by providing access to continuing education, resiliency, and loan repayment opportunities. The ultimate goal is to stabilize the health workforce to better meet the healthcare needs of Alaska.
CACHE SHARP
The Clearinghouse of Alaska's Continuing Health Education (CACHE) is an online catalog
that centralizes continuing professional development opportunities for Alaska's healthcare
workforce. Regsiter for an account, find a training or submit one!
Alaska’s SHARP program is our statewide support-for-service effort to improve the
recruitment, retention, and distribution of healthcare professionals through student
loan repayment and direct incentives. SHARP is a public-private partnership working
to support healthcare practitioners in medical, dental, and behavioral health disciplines.
