Fire and Emergency Services
The Fire and Emergency Services program emphasizes hands-on experience using advanced technology in fire science, life safety and health care. As a student, you’ll explore a wide variety of topics, including safety and survival, fire behavior and combustion, fire protection systems, and principles of building construction.
The Fire and Emergency Services Technology AAS degree prepares you for a wide range of entry-level careers, such as:
- EMT or paramedic
- Emergency services dispatcher
- Emergency response coordinator
The degree also provides career advancement and professional development for current firefighters and emergency services professionals. EMT Training courses are offered by the Fire and Emergency Services program for non-degree and degree seeking students.
It is the mission of the Fire & Emergency Services Technology programs at UAA to graduate competent and ethical professionals by providing the best possible general/technical education, offering the students the opportunity to enhance their skills, learn new skills, gain the ability to function at a professional level and provide lifelong learning.
Students can personalize their education according to their career goals through electives focusing on firefighting and emergency medical services.
Gain experience working with local fire agencies, hospitals and EMS departments in practicum placements.
Train with program faculty who are professionally trained and experienced firefighters and EMTs.
The degree program curriculum follows standards set by the US Fire Administration's Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education Model.
