The traditional name has stuck, but “Accounting Recruitment Week” is really a lot more than just one week!  These events are for everyone interested in a career in accounting, now or in the future. Most recruiters are looking for students on a public accounting track, but everyone involved is happy to talk with students who are discerning the path that’s best for them.

Whether you're applying for an internship or seeking a career after graduation, Accounting Recruitment Week is an integral step in the journey to a career in accounting.

  • Activate your free Handshake account & review positions posted on firms’ Handshake profiles.

  • Do a Resume & Cover Letter review with Career Services. Schedule appointment before September 16. 

  • Ask your faculty for feedback on your resume and cover letter.

  • Do a Mock Interview with Career Services. Schedule appointment before September 30. 

  • Practice interview answers.

  • Practice introducing yourself, your interests, and your curiosities in a networking atmosphere.

  • Craft several thoughtful questions to ask in networking and interview settings.

The Process


  • Watch Professor Straley's Orientation session.
  • Research the recruiting accounting firms and the accounting profession in general.
  • Attend Meet the Firms on September 16.
  • Research and understand what makes each employer unique so you can decide what type of firm or organization you might want to work for, and what type of work you hope to do. 
  • Prepare a list of questions you can ask at Meet the Firms and the Fall Social.


  • Update your resume and cover letters.
  • Ask at least three professional references to be prepared to speak on your behalf. Give each reference a copy of your signed FERPA Reference Request Form.
  • Have your materials reviewed by more than one person. Consider making an appointment with Career Services to review your resume and cover letter and conduct a mock interview. 


  • If you are offered an interview, you will receive an email from Handshake or from the employer directly.
  • You’ll need to select your interview date and time before September 30 at 5:00 pm.
  • Check all of your email accounts for correspondence, and check them often!

Follow Up

Whether or not you get the job, send a thank you card or email to the firms. If you haven't heard back from a recruiter more than one week after your interview, send an email or call the firm.
