Spring Career Fair Week

Career Services welcomes all UAA students and alumni to join us for our in-person Spring Career Fair week held in the UAA Student Union. 

STEM Career Fair
This career fair is for students who are seeking careers in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. All students are welcome to attend, but invitations are specifically being sent to students in STEM majors.

Business, Health, and Liberal Arts Career Fair
This career fair is for students who are seeking careers in arts, history, education, social sciences, business, healthcare, or law. All students are welcome to attend, but invitations are specifically being sent to students in Business, Health, and Liberal Arts majors.

Please register for this event on Handshake. If you are not able to access Handshake, please contact us at uaa_career@alaska.edu so that we may assist you. Students are encouraged to register separately for each fair they wish to attend.

  • Log into Handshake with your UA username and password. 
    • If you haven’t activated your free account, you will need to answer a few questions to get started. 
    • Be sure to keep your profile up to date! This is the information that employers will see as you engage with them at the fair.
  • Select 'Career Center' and review upcoming events at the bottom of the page. 
  • Select either the 'UAA 2024 Spring STEM Career Fair" or "UAA 2024 Spring Business, Health, and Liberal Arts Career Fair" 
  • Click the blue 'register now' button

Career Fair Tips for YOU 

Career fairs are a great way to discover a variety of career paths. If you are using the career fair as a tool to explore, we recommend spending some time narrowing and defining your interests.

  • Check our career resources page specifically the section on career exploration to help identify your career interests. 
  • Make an appointment with career services. We will engage you in more career exploration exercises and conversation to help you focus in on your interests.
  • Review the list of attending employers and make a list of who you will want to visit. 
  • Employers are actively posting jobs and events on Handshake. Log in using your UA username and password, familiarize yourself with the platform, and be sure to keep your profile up to date.
    • Employers will be asking you to scan their QR codes at the fair, and the information on your profile is what employers will see! 
  • Be prepared to introduce yourself to employers at the fair. Share your name, major, and any career interests you have.
  • Keep the conversation going! Come ready with questions so you can gather more information about industries or positions you're interested in.
  • Take notes! You will meet many different employers at this event. Show that you are interested and remember what you've learned by taking pen-and-paper notes, or use your phone or tablet.

Career fairs are a great way to network with employers and prepare for the road ahead, even if you aren't ready to start applying yet. 

  • Make an appointment with career services to talk about job search strategies and/or your resume. Now is the time to prepare to be a competitive applicant!

Actively Applying

Career fairs are a great opportunity secure a job or internship. However, you aren't the only one seeking. Do your homework and come prepared to be a competitive applicant. 

  • Make an appointment with career services to polish and perfect your resume. 
  • Employers are actively posting jobs and events on Handshake. Log in using your UA username and password, familiarize yourself with the platform, and be sure to keep your profile up to date.
    • Employers will be asking you to scan their QR codes at the fair, and the information on your profile is what employers will see! 
  • A couple of hours will go by fast! Review the list of attending employers and make a list of who you will want to visit. 
  • Be prepared to introduce yourself to employers at the fair. Share your name, major, your career goals, and any relevant experience you have. 
  • This is your opportunity to get to know the company you may be working for. Come prepared with questions that focus on company culture, daily responsibilities, and opportunities for growth. 
  • Take notes! You will meet many different employers at this event. Show that you are interested and remember what you've learned by taking pen-and-paper notes, or use your phone or tablet.
  • Follow up! If you are interested in pursuing a job or internship, conclude the conversation by asking how you should follow up. Would they like you to apply online, or to follow up by email? Is there a specific person you can follow up with if you have any questions?

  • Do I need to register in advance?

    Attendees are not required to register in advance. However, it is encouraged, as registration will provide attendees the opportunity to prepare, review organization profiles, connect one-on-one with employers, and apply ahead of time for posted jobs and internships.

  • What if I can't attend?

    Students and alumni who are unable to attend this event are still welcome to register for the event on Handshake, review employer profiles, and apply to posted jobs and internships.

  • Where do I park?

    Parking is free for the afternoon in the Engineering Parking Garage of UAA Drive.  Please anticipate a 5+ minute walk between the parking garage and the event venue.

    This event will be held in the Student Union Cafeteria:  2901 Spirit Way, Anchorage, AK 99508.

  • Do I need a resume?

    If you are actively seeking a position, we recommend you bring an updated resume in order to leave something memorable with the employers you meet. Make an appointment or review Career Services resume resources to prepare.
