Specialized Program Accreditation
When available, many individual programs seek specialized program accreditation, which evaluates programs based on discipline or profession based standards. Students who complete an accredited curriculum enjoy additional confidence that experts in that field have evaluated the program and testified to its quality. Program accreditation may also enable students to more easily obtain professional certifications or registration.
More than 70 of UAA's academic programs have approval and/or accreditation from agencies external to UAA.
Seeking or Maintaining Specialized Program Accreditation
The Office of Academic Affairs is responsible for oversight of specialized program accreditation, tracking the status of accredited programs, and maintaining a repository of specialized program accreditation communication and documentation. All communication with accrediting bodies should be routed through the college and OAA before being submitted to external organizations. Please allow time for this review when developing timelines to meet required deadlines, and work with the office when you are planning site visit schedules.
One to two weeks before site visits, the Provost and Vice Provost meet with the program to help frame the evaluation and identify any information needed to prepare. Participants should include the program's dean/campus director and the faculty chair and/or accreditation lead. Please contact the Provost's Office and Vice Provost's Office to schedule this meeting.
Programs preparing accreditation materials are encouraged to contact the Vice Provost's office (email@example.com) for assistance with finding institutional information, such as documentation of institutional accreditation or policies on credit hour requirements.
