La Ochún de Midialis
Acrylic on Canvas, 24” X 18”, 2016
Midialis is ritual singer steeped in Perico’s local traditions. She invited me to
see her altar for Ochún at la Sociedad Africa. She is pictured here holding her Ochún
doll. In Cuba, dolls are often used to represent deities and are identified by their
attributes, such as colors, accessories, and costumes.
