María Eugenia Prepares the Awán

For many years María Eugenia Suset Zulueta has prepared the food for the awán, a ritual
held every December in Perico. The bowls are filled with seeds and legumes that will
be offered to the ancestors in an elaborate ceremony that includes drumming, dancing
and singing late into the night.
