Beginning with the Fall 2027 semester, all students will pay in-state tuition rates!
Whether you live in Alaska or are coming from another state or even from another country,
your cost for tuition will be the Alaska residency rate.

- Who is eligible?All students enrolled at UAA are eligible for the in-state tuition rates, regardless of residency. This includes students with residency in other states or countries.
- When does Alaska Unlocked begin?The Alaska Unlocked in-state tuition rates for everyone begins with the Fall 2027 semester.
- Is there an application?No, there is no application process to receive the Alaska Unlocked in-state tuition rates. Everyone enrolled at UAA is automatically eligible.
- Is this a scholarship?No, the Alaska Unlocked tuition rates are not a scholarship so you do not need to apply for it or submit any special documentation. It is a tuition rate that applies to everyone.
- Can I still apply for scholarships and use other scholarships?Yes, we encourage you to apply for and use other scholarships. The Alaska Unlocked tuition rates do not affect other financial aid opportunities.
- Are all courses included in Alaska Unlocked?Yes, all courses are included in the Alaska Unlocked tuition rates.
- Is Alaska Unlocked different from the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program?Yes, Alaska Unlocked is different from the WUE program. Alaska Unlocked is actually a better deal as its tuition rate is the same in-state rate for all students, regardless of residency. The WUE program offers eligible undergraduate students with residency in participating Western U.S. states the ability to pay 150% of in-state tuition.
- I am an international student. Does Alaska Unlocked apply to me?Yes, as an international student, you are eligible for the Alaska Unlocked tuition rates.
- I am a current student at UAA. Will the Alaska Unlocked tuition rate apply to me?Starting Fall 2027, the Alaska Unlocked tuition rates will apply to all students, including current students.
- Can I apply for the Alaska Unlocked tuition rate retroactively?No, the Alaska Unlocked tuition rates will apply starting the Fall 2027 semester and will not apply to previous semesters.
- I’m a UAA student but I’m taking UAF or UAS course(s). Will they charge non-resident
rates?All University of Alaska schools participate in the Alaska Unlocked tuition rates. Courses you take at UAF or UAS will have in-state tuition rates applied.
- If I receive in-state tuition, does that mean I am automatically an Alaska resident?No, Alaska residency is a process handled and determined by the State of Alaska. As a student of UAA, you will receive the in-state tuition rates but this does not change your residency status.
- Does it matter if I am a part-time student? Do I need to be a full-time student to
be eligible for Alaska Unlocked?Alaska Unlocked applies to all courses for all students. You can be a part-time or full-time student and still pay the same tuition rates.
- Does Alaska Unlocked apply to graduate students?Yes, Alaska Unlocked in-state tuition applies to graduate students as well. Please note that graduate tuition is still a different rate than undergraduate tuition rates.
