Fall 2007: Andrew C. Revkin, New York Times environment reporter and prize-winning author speaks in Anchorage

by Kathleen McCoy  |

UAA is pleased to present an evening with New York Times environment reporter and author Andrew C. Revkin. On Wednesday, September 19 at 7:30 p.m., Revkin will give a free illustrated lecture at the Sydney Laurence Theatre in the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. His lecture, entitled, On the Front Lines of Climate Change:  From the North Pole to the White House, charts the science and significance of global warming, drawing on nearly 20 years of covering climate research and politics for magazines and newspapers. Revkin will also discuss his pioneering trip to the North Pole with a hardy climate research team. A book signing will follow the lecture.

Andrew Revkin is in Anchorage as part of UAA's International Polar Year (IPY) event series.  The University of Alaska (UA) is taking an active role in celebrating the 2007-2009 IPY by promoting research, education and outreach activities, and to ensure that the benefits of IPY extend to everyone in Alaska. The IPY is a scientific program which focuses on the Arctic and the Antarctic and is organized through the International Council for Science and the World Meteorological Organization.  2007 marks the beginning of the fourth IPY.  The first occurred in 1882, followed by 1932 and 1957.  For additional information on IPY, visit http://greenandgold.uaa.alaska.edu/ipy/.

This event is free and open to the public.  Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
