Acceleration Academy students rock the COVID semester!

The Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program’s (ANSEP) Acceleration Academy, ANSEP’s fulltime component for Anchorage and Mat-Su students in grades 9 through 12, finished the semester with 83 students earning 610 university credits and a successful credit completion rate of 85%. In partnership with the Anchorage and Matanuska-Susitna Borough School Districts, Acceleration Academy students take university courses for dual credit and can go from eighth grade to a BS STEM degree in five years. Congratulations to all the students and the ANSEP team in overcoming the challenges of COVID!

Job opening: Communications Director

The UAA College of Health seeks exceptional communications leaders for its communications director position, which is an integral part of the College of Health leadership team. This position plans, implements and manages communications activities for the college, which is Alaska’s largest provider of health and social services degree programs.

UAA IT Services system updates to begin Dec. 28

UAA IT Services will be working on multiple systems during the winter break starting Dec. 28. No major outages are expected but some slowness of systems may be experienced. UAA IT Services is communicating with individual system owners to coordinate any specific outages during that week. Reminder: Register your new WolfCard

New WolfCards are being sent this week to mailing addresses on file for all faculty, staff and current students who are existing cardholders. If you have not received your new card by Dec. 11, 2020, and need it for the start of the spring semester, please contact the UAA Technical Support Center at 907-786-4646.

Custodial service offerings during winter break closure

During winter break and spanning from Dec. 24, 2020 through Jan. 3, 2021, Facilities will provide limited custodial services on UAA's main campus. It is important for the campus community to be cognizant of the reduction in custodial service, particularly during the pandemic. Campus is closed with very few exceptions. Student resource, support and service areas that will remain online for custodial services during the closure include the UAA/APU Consortium Library, the research labs found in the ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building and the Natural Science Building, as well as the Ecosystems-Biomedical Health Laboratory building. Cleaning services will also be maintained for essential worker areas within the University Police Department and portions of the Gordon Hartlieb Hall.

Dr. Diane Hirshberg named Vice-President Academic at University of the Arctic

Dr. Diane Hirshberg has been named Vice-President Academic of the University of the Arctic (UArctic), a collaborative network of universities, colleges, and other organizations committed to higher education and research in and about the North. In this role Hirshberg plans to highlight some of UArctic’s exceptional academic programming, identify best practices for offering circumpolar academic opportunities and increase those collaborative offerings.

Now hiring: Student Account Specialist

The Office of the Bursar is accepting applications for a Student Account Specialist. The Student Account Specialist serves as an expert resource to students, staff, donors, sponsoring agencies, and other members of the university community in the application of various aid types to account charges, the disbursement of credit balances directly to students, and billing student account sponsoring agencies. This is a regular, full-time staff position. Fiscal Technician 3, Grade 77.

Dec. 21, 2020–Jan. 3, 2021: Reduced hours for ITS Technical Support Center

UAA IT Services Technical Support Center will be open reduced hours beginning Monday, Dec. 21, 2020. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season!

Now hiring: Accounts Payable & Travel Student Assistant

The UAA Accounts Payable/Travel Department is seeking applications for a Student Assistant C position to assist with reviewing travel expense reimbursements and direct pay/employee reimbursements, filing, communicating with students, staff, faculty and vendors professionally, loading and indexing files into our electronic file retention system, and assisting the AP/Travel Manager as needed.
