Spring 2013: UAA Theatre presents 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead'

by Michelle Saport  |

Show: "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" Show dates: Feb. 20-March 8 Show times: Fridays and Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 3 p.m. Location: UAA Mainstage Theatre (Fine Arts Building, Room 220)

The UAA Department of Theatre and Dance is pleased to present "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead" by Tom Stoppard and directed by UAA faculty member David Edgecombe.

Take a rollicking ride through Hamlet with two of the play's minor characters. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern love outrageous wordplay and relish irreverent philosophy. Tom Stoppard gives a hilarious view of royal politics seen through the eyes of this loveable pair of misfits who become the real victims of the murderous intrigues. This play is an early masterpiece of the man who would become one of the most influential playwrights of contemporary theatre. Clive Barnes of The New York Times described his play as "very funny, very brilliant and very chilling." This production will also premiere an original score composed by Junior Wolfgang Olsson of the UAA Department of Music.

A joint symposium with the Department of English, featuring a Q-and-A with the cast and a discussion panel is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 22 and March 1 immediately following the show. More details will be available soon.

Tickets are $19 for the general public, $16 for seniors/military/non-UAA students and $8 for UAA students. Tickets are available now at UAATix.com, CenterTix.net or (907) 786-1766. All seats are general admission.
