Fall 2016: Please encourage first-year students to take the Mapworks survey

by Michelle Saport  |

The first Mapworks survey for this year is live for students to take between now and Oct. 9. Mapworks is a student transition and success program that has been on the UAA campus since 2010. Degree-seeking students who have earned 30 or fewer credits are expected to participate in the Mapworks program all year long. As UAA faculty and staff, you can help first-year students succeed by announcing the survey in your classroom and encouraging students to participate.

Mapworks conducts four surveys each academic year: two in the fall and two in the spring. Students receive the survey in their UAA email. Upon completion, students may access their personalized success report based on their responses. The report is confidential, identifies individual strengths and challenges, offers tips to improve and encourages students to connect to resources at UAA. The algorithm used to create the report is steeped in years of student retention research. Students are encouraged to share their reports with advisors to make a plan for success as they transition to the demands of college.

Students who complete a survey are entered to win prizes. For this survey we are giving away an iPad, UAA Campus Bookstore gift certificates, parking permits and commuter swag from Parking Services, Subway sandwiches, free soup from Express in the Engineering & Industry Building, free chips and salsa from Caliente in the Student Union (courtesy of Seawolf Dining) and free T-shirts.
