UAA history majors Khafani Amundson and Kayla Craft, along with recent history alumni Pierce Bateman (now pursuing a graduate degree in northern studies at UAF) and Anthony Davis, all presented original historical research papers at the Northwest Regional Phi Alpha Theta Conference in Spokane, Wash. this past weekend. Their projects are the result of work both in the classroom and beyond, thanks to the support of grants from the Office of Undergraduate Research.

Kayla Craft presented "Moral Decay: An Exploration of Fashion and Sumptuary Law in Elizabethan England." Anthony Davis dleivered a paper titled, "Don't Stop the Presses! Printed Propaganda and the Tudor-Stuart Dynasties." Pierce Bateman presented part of his larger project, "An Alienating Patriotism and the Hardening of a Politician: Senator John Quincy Adams, 1803-1808" and Khafani Amundson presented "Brazil: from Slavery to Freedom."

Ray Ball, Ph.D., faculty in the UAA Department of History, also attended the conference and chaired a panel on Slavery and Empire in the Atlantic World.

The students' projects will be on display at the Undergraduate Research and Discovery Symposium poster fair April 17-21 in the UAA/APU Consortium Library.
