UAA financial aid and the U.S. government shutdown

Dear Seawolves,

Happy New Year and welcome to the spring 2019 semester. We hope that you had a wonderful winter break and enjoyed time with friends and family. Time away from our academic pursuits can be remarkably restorative. We are confident that, as always, you return to campus with renewed enthusiasm. Spring semester, like the season, is about transformation. We are proud to have you as part of the UAA family as you continue to grow, and we are excited to see what you will do this semester.

While we look forward to the semester ahead, we know some students may have concerns related to the federal government shutdown. Currently, financial aid has disbursed on schedule for this semester, veterans benefits have paid as scheduled, and visas for our international students are still being issued. Students having issues requesting specific IRS documents now have the ability to submit alternative documentation.

If you have specific questions about issues related to the government shutdown, please contact us. We are prepared to assist students and look forward to addressing your needs. For students who are attending or are enrolled in a community campus degree, your community campus director's office can assist you.

Thank you for making UAA your academic home, and have a great semester!

Sincerely,

Lora Volden Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Services llvolden@alaska.edu / 907-786-1480

Ben Morton Dean of Students bmorton4@alaska.edu / 907-786-1214

P.S. Please be sure to make the most of the opportunities afforded to you in this new year at UAA. We encourage you to engage with student organizations, utilize the resources available to you across campus, attend UAA events and stay connected with the university on social media.
