UAA women win YWCA Women of Achievement Awards

UAA congratulates YWCA Alaska's 2020 Women of Achievement Awardees, including three women affiliated with UAA: Paola Banchero, faculty, Department of Journalism and Public Communications; Renee Carter-Chapman, alumna, retired senior vice provost; and Panigkaq Agatha John-Shields, alumna, faculty, School of Education. This year marks 31 years that YWCA Alaska has been recognizing and acknowledging the leadership and valuable contributions of women in shaping and strengthening the State of Alaska. Quoting the famous words of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, “women should be in all places where decisions are being made.” The value of women’s voice and perspective enriches every conversation and positively impacts the lives and well-being of Alaskans.

The leadership of these women, and their commitment to service align with the mission of YWCA Alaska, to eliminate racism, empower women and girls, promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. These amazing women represent the best of Alaska and are deserving of this honor and recognition.

YWCA Alaska will host the 31st Annual Women of Achievement & Youth Awards during the week of Nov. 2-6, 2020. This will be a virtual event designed to celebrate these 10 phenomenal women and 5 incredible youth. (The Young People of Achievement Awardees will be announced soon.)

As a result of receiving this award, these women leaders will join the more than 300 women of influence and exceptional leadership in The Academy of Women Achievers.
