Position Summary

This job is hired through a labor pool from which the College of Health draws when graduate research assistants are needed to work on sponsored projects. The position may be part or full time.

General Duties

Knowledge, skills, abilities and knowledge of research methods. Preferred experience and education varies according to research project needs (see below).

Specific to ‘Setting the Stage’ Project

  • Assistance with set-up of remote (southwestern Alaskan communities) community advisory boards.
  • Facilitating community-based focus groups and eventual training of local workforce for field interviewing in future women’s health projects aimed at prevention of maternal mortality.
  • Additional assistance with producing culturally-matched training materials, as guided by CABs and principal investigator (PI), as well as data entry and assessment.
  • Preference is given to applicants that possess the following qualifications:
    • Belong to a culturally-matched group for this area of research, including female identity.
    • Ability to travel to and work in community-based field settings   
    • Experience with qualitative research
    • CITI-Basic Human Subjects Research certification (or able to get by time of hire)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and enrollment in a graduate program at the University of Alaska

Responsibilities

  • Incumbents will join PI, Dr. Lisa Schwarzburg, assistant professor of health sciences in the Division of Population Health Sciences, in facilitating formation of Community Advisory Boards focused on maternal health in rural southwestern Alaskan communities.
  • Includes working on a funded NIH-INBRE project (G12834) aimed at improving maternal health in these research areas, under the guidance of CABs and principal investigator.
