"Art of Repair: Darning", Workshop Opportunity with Amy Meissner

by Green & Gold News  |

Join artist, Amy Meissner, for an intimate workshop featuring the art of repair, with a focus on darning. Strong and portable, this craft practice, which uses a type of weaving to infill holes or reinforce worn areas by hand, is widely applicable to well-loved garments and textiles, from chunky knit sweaters to fine base layers, to socks, gloves and even torn mesh on backpacks or favorite running shoes.

The class will consist of group repair evaluation, appropriate tutorials to address as many versions of this repair technique as possible, individual consultation, and time for group work at the end. No previous sewing experience necessary; sharing stories of brokenness and repair will be highly encouraged.

Supplies List

  1. Bring a variety of well-loved garments requiring attention and care through handwork and darning (no broken zippers please as we won’t have time or supplies to repair these).
  2. Scissors
  3. A selection of yarns and cotton thread will be provided, however if there is a special color or type of thread you would like to use for your project please bring what you like.
  4. Needles will be provided.
