Free EPSCoR animation workshop, Sept. 13-17

Alaska NSF EPSCoR will hold a free animation workshop the week of Sept. 13-17. This workshop is designed to familiarize individuals with technologies and tools that can be used to create engaging data visualizations. It will focus on building animated infographics using an open-source, multi-faceted program called Blender.

Evacuation drills scheduled for this week, Sept. 13-17

UAA’s Office of Emergency Management will be coordinating evacuation drills in the academic and office buildings on the Anchorage campus. When the alarm sounds, policy requires that all occupants leave the building using the nearest exit. Drill volunteers will be on site at many buildings, directing people to the Emergency Assembly Area outside and distributing educational hand-outs.

As the Arctic continues to experience changes due to climate change, Jeffery Welker, professor in UAA’s Department of Biological Sciences, is helping lead an international research team aboard the U.S. Coast Guard’s Healy Icebreaker to document and study the dramatic transformation.

Fast Track Certificates 2.0

Last fall, UAA announced its Fast Track Certificate program. This year, the Municipality of Anchorage has collaborated with the university with a $3 million American Rescue Plan Act grant that broadens the scope of the Fast Track program.
