Sunday, June 2, 6-10 p.m. Student Union, Cafeteria

UAA Spanish Club presents the Dominica Music and Dance Festival, with headlining act international bachata sensation Joan Soriano, and his band from the Dominican Republic.Peter Blaustein described Soriano's unique blend of bachata as "packed with feeling: sweet lines with ragged edges, catchy melodies over tight guitar-shapes and a bright raspy voice that finds the joy inside bittersweet. This is truth-music, well-crafted and well-produced. It entrances dancers." Watch the official "Tu me estas matando" video by Joan Soriano on YouTube.

The festival begins at 6 p.m. with a free, one-hour bachata dance class by professional instructors from Alaska Dance Promotions. Open dancing and live music follow. Visit the event's Facebook page for a complete schedule.

Tickets are available online at UAATix.com. Advance tickets are $11 for UAA students, faculty and staff; $22 for the general public.
