UAF's Kara Hoover presents 'You Eat What You Smell,' Nov. 1

by Michelle Saport  |

Friday, Nov. 1, 4-6 p.m. Professional Studies Building, Room 166

Why do humans smell things differently? What does smell have to do with sex and eating meat? Since ancient human migrations out of Africa, numerous factors have shaped the distribution of variation in genes that control the human sense of smell. Kara Hoover, Ph.D., will discuss her research tracing micro-evolutionary adaptations for olfactory phenotypes like OR7D4, which is particularly interesting because it is linked to perception of a sex steroid and meat preference in humans.
