Dec. 8 and 10, 2013: Stress relief for Finals Week
by Michelle Saport |
The UAA Integrated Suicide Prevention Initiative, in partnership with Choron Ryan, faculty in UAA's Department of Biological Sciences and instructor at Anchorage Yoga, and the UAA Active Minds Student Club, invites you to a stress reduction event during finals week. Join us to participate in a short yoga and deep breathing session and enter to win a free two-week pass from Anchorage Yoga. Sessions will be held:
Sunday, Dec. 8, 4-4:45 p.m. UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307
Tuesday, Dec. 10, 5-5:45 p.m. Student Union
As the semester ends and finals approach, many students may feel overwhelmed and stressed. This is a natural reaction to the many projects and deadlines coming up. These free yoga and deep breathing sessions are a great way to reduce tension and increase energy. No previous yoga experience necessary. All levels welcome. Here are a few other easy steps you can take to reduce stress during finals week:
- Get plenty of sleep: Seven to eight hours a night is recommended.
- Eat well: Healthy proteins are key for concentration. Make sure your diet also includes lots of healthy fruits and vegetables.
- Take a break: Schedule study breaks to hang out and have fun.
- Exercise: Go on a walk and get some fresh air, or attend an exercise class.
- Cut back on alcohol: The more you drink, the harder it is for your body to handle stress.
- Breathe!
