Ryan Bergerson, a civil engineering major and German minor, was recently awarded the 2014-15 Congress-Bundestag Scholarship. Bergerson is the eighth UAA recipient of this prestigious scholarship, which provides for a year of study and internship in Germany. (Visit the Department of Languages' website to view a complete list of UAA recipients.)

After the initial screening, Bergerson was invited to an interview (conducted partly in German) with the Congress-Bundestag Board in Oregon and completed a written language test to prove his German proficiency. Bergerson is one of 75 participants for the fellowship program, selected from a very competitive pool of applicants.

Congratulations go out to Bergerson, as well as Professor Natasa Masanovic, faculty advisor for all eight UAA Congress-Bundestag Scholarship recipients.

About the Congress-Bundestag Scholarship: The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a fellowship funded by the German Bundestag and U.S. Congress that annually provides 75 American and 75 German young professionals the opportunity to spend one year in each others' countries on a cultural immersion program, studying, interning and living with hosts. The program is open to candidates in all career fields interested in a year of cultural exchange.

The CBYX program is sponsored in the U.S. by the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, under the authority of the Fulbright-Hays Act of 1961, as amended. The Department of State issues a grant to administer the program to Cultural Vistas, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization headquartered in New York. Cultural Vistas has administered CBYX for more than 29 years, in collaboration with its German partner organization, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit.
