UAA dancers and alumni participating in National Water Dance Project – Alaska on April 12

Saturday, April 12, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. (Outside performance: 12-12:30 p.m.) Anchorage Community Works (349 E. Ship Creek Ave.)

Several UAA Dance Program students and alumni will participate in the National Water Dance Project - Alaska on April 12. The event is an opportunity for artists to experience the power of art and performance as a vehicle for social change in collaboration with 100 organizations throughout the U.S. The movement choir will join a nationally live-streamed performance at noon, outside on the Ship Creek walking bridge. More than 50 participants will be involved in this site-specific collaboration including dancers from UAA, Momentum Dance Collective, Alaska Dance Theatre, East High Dance Contempo and DanceWest.

To date, other scheduled performers include musicians Eric Bleicher, Monica Lettner and Yngvil Vatn Guttu, tap artist Katherine Kramer, poet Gabrielle Barnett, novelist Mei Mei Evans (recent finalist for the PEN/Bellwether Prize), visual artists Carol McCarty and Pam Wolfe, as well as a special performance by Pamyua artist Aassanaaq Kairaiuak and the Acilquq Singers and Dancers.
