'AKGeology for the Weekend Prospector,' May 17

The AKGeology workshop is designed to promote enjoyment of Alaska geology on a recreational level and introduces basic geology as it applies to Alaska. Participants will:
- Understand Alaska's geologic timeline;
- Identify the major geologic features in Alaska;
- Define the major categories of rocks in Alaska;
- Discover Alaska's mineral resources;
- Learn how to read a geology map;
- Locate accessible places of geologic interest;
- Create a bibliography of geology-related information resources; and
- Create a list of key items to bring on an exploration outing.
Join instructor Judy Olson Hicks, who has been exploring Alaska's geologic formations for the past 22 years. Class size is limited to 20 people-register online today. The cost to attend is $50.
Note: Since this is an all-day class, participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own laptops to access online resources used by the instructors. Participants without laptops will be able to view the online resources on a projection screen.
