The University of Alaska Fairbanks and OneTree Alaska invites UAA students to apply for the Fairbanks STEAM Institute 2014: A Botanical Immersion Through Multiple Lenses. The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Institute is a two-week immersion for teachers, artists, scientists, university students and community members. Participants will define a plot for inspiration and scientific inquiry. They will identify (and work with) the plants, insects and interrelationships through multiple lenses during the two-week Institute. They will learn, observe and record with drawing, data collection, words, poetry, technology and design. Each will contribute a plate of illustration and writing to an encased portfolio, which will be printed and presented to everyone in the institute.

Dates: July 6: Orientation, 6-8 p.m. July 7-11 and 14-18: 8:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m.

The UAF RISE (Review of Infrastructure, Sustainability and Energy) Board has approved funding for a limited number of UAA, UAF and UAS students to receive scholarships that will cover all fees associated with this course. Information for applicants is available at www.borealhouse.org.
