by Michelle Saport  |

Wednesday, Aug. 6, 8 a.m.-5:15 p.m. Providence Hospital, West Auditorium, Lower Level (3200 Providence Dr.)

Want to improve the way you understand and communicate about health? The Summer Seminar in Health Literacy will offer practical strategies for health care professionals and anyone else who wants to improve their health literacy and better explain medical concepts to others in non-medical language.

Experts Helen Osborne and Dr. Barry Weiss will offer practical advice in the daylong seminar. Breakout sessions will focus on health literacy for health professionals and strategies for more effectively reaching special populations: immigrants and refugees, elders and people with intellectual and developmental challenges.

Continuing education contact hours, refreshments and a $5 lunch card are included in the cost of registration, which is $25 for students and seniors (55 and older) and $50 for other individuals. If the registration cost is a barrier and you want to attend, contact Rain at rain@alaskachd.org to apply for a registration fee waiver. Proceeds benefit the Anchorage Health Literacy Collaborative efforts in Alaska. Everyone except Providence employees and exhibitors should use this link to register: http://ttclms.org/class_detail.php?z_classid=105267. Providence employees must register through HealthStream.

If you have questions, please contact the Providence Alaska Learning Institute at (907) 212-3011.
