UAA Dining Services announces food venue changes coming this fall

UAA Dining Services will be making some changes to its campus offerings this fall, including the addition of two exciting new venues.

In addition to the new venues, future changes are right around the corner. Fireside Café on the east side of campus will be closed for the next three years, and is being repurposed in support of ANSEP programs. These efforts will bring thousands of rural and Alaska Native middle school and high school students to UAA.

In October, the Varsity Sports Grill in the new Alaska Airlines Center will open its doors to the community, featuring cutting-edge bistro cuisine with a focus on locally grown ingredients and fresh Alaska seafood. The grill will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. The 100-seat full-service restaurant will overlook the center's main arena, with additional patio seating and breathtaking views of the Chugach Mountains.

Also opening this fall, the Eagle Center Café on the Chugiak-Eagle River campus will open Aug. 18, offering a variety of freshly made hot and cold sandwiches, and artisan coffees and teas.

In the next year, UAA Dining Services will embark on a campus-wide dining needs assessment with guidance from students, staff and faculty. This planning process will inform new offerings in places like Fireside, the Student Union and the Commons.
