2014 Alaska Book Week

Alaska Book Week is a yearly celebration of Alaska's authors and books. This year, the UAA Bookstore host a number of author events related to Alaska Book Week, Oct. 4-11. See the bookstore schedule below and visit the Alaska Book Week website for details on other events throughout Alaska. Read local!

'Alaska Quarterly Review' Showcase Monday, Oct. 6, 1-3 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

A complete compilation of Alaska Quarterly Review, from the first double issue (Fall 1982) to the just-released 62nd double issue, will be on display for you to peruse and enjoy.

Poet Joan Kane: 'Writing Opportunities for Alaska Native Students' Tuesday, Oct. 7, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

Joan Kane is the featured artist in the most recent Alaska Quarterly Review (Volume 31, Spring/Summer 2014). At this event, she will read selected poems, discuss Alaska Quarterly Review and mention writing opportunities for Alaska Native students. This event is co-presented by Alaska Quarterly Review and the UAA Campus Bookstore.

Jervette Ward presents 'Sex, Race and Class: Portrayals of Black Women in Reality TV' Monday, Oct. 6, 5-7 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

Jervette Ward is assistant professor in the UAA Department of English. She earned a Ph.D. in English with a focus on literary and cultural studies from the University of Memphis. Her forthcoming book Scandalous Stars: Black Women in Reality TV will be published in 2015. This event is sponsored by the UAA Campus Bookstore, Department of English, Multicultural Center and College of Arts and Sciences.

There will be a pre-event reception for Jervette Ward's lecture from 4-4:45 p.m. in the Multicultural Center (Rasmuson Hall, Room 106). All are welcome to attend.

'The Art of Writing and Publishing in Different Genres' with Steve Levi, Deb Vanasse and Martha Amore Monday, Oct. 13, 5-7 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

Steve Levi (Walrus with a Gold Tooth, and Cowboys of the Sky), Martha Amore (Weathered In, "Geology") and Deb Vanasse (Cold Spell and Lucy's Dance) describe their multifaceted books, writing styles and publishing today.
