2015 Jazz Week
by Michelle Saport |
The UAA Department of Music is proud to present the 29th annual Jazz Week Festival. Jazz Week, March 1-6, integrates student and professional performers in a significant "hands-on" experience. Jazz Week encourages students and community members to participate in the performance environment alongside guest artists. This year's festival will feature percussionist Robert Arms for four days in rehearsals and evening concerts. Monday and Tuesday Robert will coach and rehearse with selected UAA ensembles and Thursday and Friday he will perform alongside these ensembles during the final concerts.
Robert Arms has been the principal percussionist with the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra for the last 27 years. Robert is a graduate of Romig Middle School and West High, class of '81, and for the past 25 years has worked for the ASD teaching and directing the next generation of jazz musicians. Currently he is directing jazz bands at both of his alma maters. Mr. Arms is also a freelance musician and teaches privately in his studio in Northeast Anchorage.
