Sept. 18, 2015: NCBI Social Inclusion and Equity Workshop

by Michelle Saport  |

Friday, Sept. 18, 8:55 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Gorsuch Commons, Room 107

UAA students are invited to join the UAA National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) team for the Social Inclusion and Equity one-day workshop. NCBI workshops help build cultural competence, foster collaboration and partnership, and offer tools for developing effective relationships within and across group identities. Further, the workshops support student development for global citizenship. Do not miss the opportunity to engage in this experiential process and series of activities.

This one-day workshop will help students focus on:

  • Celebrating similarities and differences;
  • Recognizing information and misinformation learned about other groups including their own;
  • Identifying and expressing pride in the group(s) to which they belong;
  • Learning skills to effectively respond to offensive remarks and comments; and much more.

Your attendance and participation will be recognized by UAA Chancellor Tom Case, with a certification of successful completion of the workshop. Class is limited to 25 participants.

Every person counts and is important in welcoming diversity to UAA campus communities. Lunch will be provided. To reserve space for the workshop, please RSVP no later than Friday, Sept. 11, by emailing uaa_ocdc@uaa.alaska.edu, calling (907) 786-4680 or visiting the NCBI website.
