CTC hosts grand opening for Math Emporium and Academic Coaching Center Oct. 7

The UAA Community & Technical College (CTC) invites faculty, staff and students to attend the grand opening celebration for the new Math Emporium and Academic Coaching Center. University of Alaska President Jim Johnsen will join CTC leadership for this event and share some brief comments about the importance of these services for students.

Event details The celebration will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Learning Resources Center in Sally Monserud Hall.

About these services The Math Emporium blends traditional lecture-style math courses with the web-based assessment tool ALEKS to gauge students' math knowledge, identify gaps and build individualized study plans. Download a flier.

The Academic Coaching Center provides group and individual coaching sessions to students on topics such as reading, test taking and time management strategies. Students will also find practical help on how to use email and Blackboard and build their ePortfolio. During the academic year, the center will host English conversation hour and educational gaming events. Download a flier.
