Breathe fresh air: UAA is now smoke and tobacco free

20150320-smoke-free-uaaThe UAA campus officially became smoke and tobacco free Nov. 19, 2015, the same day as the Great American Smokeout. The new policy prohibits tobacco use and smoking, including the use of electronic cigarettes and similar products on university property. UA BOR Policy P05.12.102.

In April 2014, UAA students voted for a smoke-free campus. Last December, the University of Alaska Board of Regents acknowledged the will of the students, along with faculty and staff, and passed a comprehensive smoke and tobacco-free policy for all University of Alaska campuses.

Student tobacco users who would like help quitting can call the Student Health and Counseling Center at (907) 786-4040. Faculty and staff have access to cessation programs through the Quit for Life program at Healthyroads.com.
